8-channel 915nm SMT pulsed lasers enhance long-range liDAR systems for autonomous vehicles;
Aec-q102-certified 8-channel QFN package with high performance and efficiency using ams OSRAM's proprietary wavelength stabilization technology;
Based on more than 20 years of pulsed laser technology experience.
ams OSRAM, the world's leading provider of optical solutions (Swiss Stock Exchange: AMS announced the introduction of the SPL S8L91A_3A01, an innovative, high-performance 8-channel 915nm SMT pulse laser, to empower autonomous driving, simplify system design and improve performance, making liDAR for long-range detection more efficient and reliable. The SPL S8L91A_3 packaged with QFN is used in the liDAR system of autonomous vehicles such as passenger cars, trucks and driverless taxis, greatly improving the operation, navigation, and data processing capabilities of the autonomous driving system.
In autonomous driving applications, the SPL S8L91A_3A01 is used to significantly improve long-range high-resolution liDAR systems. With the AEC-Q102 certified 8-channel EEL (edge-to-emission laser) in a QFN package, ams OSRAM now offers a more diverse range of infrared components for system developers to choose from. With a peak optical power of 1,000W and an efficiency of up to 30%, this new product delivers outstanding performance.
Autonomous driving is one of the most discussed topics about the future, and most system vendors firmly believe that lidar is essential for advanced autonomous driving. For more than 20 years, ams OSRAM has been a major player in the development and production of automotive LiDAR pulsed infrared lasers - with more than 20 million products delivered and proven experience and quality. The SPL S8L91A_3 A01 is the latest product lineup based on the company's extensive experience in the field of automotive liDAR technology.
The SPL S8L91A_3 A01 is an advanced infrared high-power SMT laser tailored for LiDAR applications in a monolithic integrated 8-channel design that delivers 125W of power per laser channel, or 1,000W of total peak optical power, greatly enhancing the performance of long-range liDAR systems that are critical for highway autonomous driving. The laser has four individually addressable anodes, each connected to two laser channels operating in parallel. Thanks to addressing capabilities, customers have the flexibility to design the final product.
The integrated laser package allows for a more compact and efficient setup, eliminating the need for alignment between multiple components, thus simplifying the design and manufacturing process. This integration not only reduces development time, but also significantly improves the reliability and performance of the final product. The laser is designed with ams OSRAM's proprietary wavelength stabilization technology, which significantly reduces wavelength drift due to temperature changes, thereby improving the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of liDAR systems and extending detection range.
The SPL S8L91A_3 A01 is designed to meet the stringent requirements of the automotive industry, with performance specifications that meet and exceed AEC-Q certification standards. The laser's QFN package is key to a reliable design that provides a durable solution to the challenges of the automotive environment. In addition to large-scale liDAR systems for autonomous vehicles, the new laser can be used in industrial liDAR to improve the performance of applications such as robotics, security monitoring, smart cities and last-mile delivery.
Clemens Hofmann, senior principal Engineer for Lidar at ams OSRAM, said: "Our new 8-channel laser module will revolutionise the autonomous driving industry. It simplifies system design and improves performance, making long-range liDAR systems more efficient and reliable. By integrating our advanced wavelength stabilization technology, we ensure excellent performance under different operating conditions."
The SPL S8L91A_3 A01 will be available this fall. For more information about LiDAR and autonomous driving, visit the ams-osram website.
